This atmospheric portrait, "Sacred Trombone", evokes the character of this brass instrument, descendant of the earlier Sackbutt. This instrument has been used sparingly in orchestral pieces, thus described by Felix Mendelssohn as:
'The trombone, too sacred for frequent use'.
The image captures both the gleam of the polished brass and the skilful hands of the Trombonist as he performs his true glissando, moving his slide without interrupting his flow of air. Man and instrument working in perfect harmony.
